Aurum Urens (Latin for “The Ardent Gold“) is the latest body of work by Michele Ardu
This collection invites viewers to reflect on te preciousness and fragility of nature. Through the power of art, it explores the universal drama of wildfires and their profound environmental and emotional impact.
The project features a series of golden sculptures crafted from wood collected in various wildfire-affected locations.
These sculptural pieces are often exhibited alongside striking photographic images of scorched landscapes, amplifying the project’s visual and emotional resonance. Each sculpture is made using the authentic remains of trees that have endured the violence of fire.
After carefully selecting and preparing the wood, the artist envelops it in a mantle of gold. This gold, in stark contrast to the charred surfaces, becomes a powerful metaphor for destruction and rebirth.
“Once deeply rooted in the same land for centuries, these survivor-woods now journey as rare works of art into museums and collectors’ homes, timeless guardians of our bond with Nature.”
